Course Description

This course will provide a general description of the types, design, components, and installation methods for photovoltaic systems used in various renewable energy applications. Basic array location, assembly, and how to identify industry standards for residential, commercial, and large solar installations will be covered. The manufacturers’ instruction guidelines will be used to construct typical rooftop and ground mount solar arrays.

Special Instructions

Tools and/or supplies needed: Clear safety glasses/goggles, hard hat, work boots, hammer, tool belt, 25′ tape measure, utility knife, 3/8″ drive ratchet, 8″ or 10″ crescent wrench, aviation snips, and a chalkbox.

  • Course Length: 24 Hours

  • Pre-requisites: It is recommended, but not mandatory, that you first take Construction Fall Protection.
  • Upon Completion: Your UBC Training Verification wallet card will be updated indicating successful course completion.
  • Certificate Type: This is a qualification issued by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (UBC).
  • Certificate Expires: Four (4) years from date of course completion. No Grace Period for this Qualification.
  • Refresher Requirement: Must take a refresher class prior to the Qualification expiring

Course Description

This course covers the forming of bridge pier caps. Terminology and the discussion of safe working practices are reviewed. Shop projects include the assembly of piercap formwork at ground level, and then hoisted, set into place, and attached to a heavy duty support system.

Tools and/or supplies needed: Hard hat, clear safety glasses, work boots, tool belt, tape measure, hammer, blue or yellow chalk line, calculator, and gloves.

Course Description

This course is designed to assist those in the carpentry trade learn how to handle their finances. The trades are learned in the field and the classroom but no one is taught how to make the money last that is earned. Items that will be covered in this course include: keeping track of monthly bills, how to pay off debt, tools to track your expenses and how to save for retirement.

Tools and/or Supplies needed: Work boots, pen/pencil, notebook, and highlighter
